The Rotary Club of Silves recently organised a coffee morning in Salir, which was generously hosted by Geoff and Carol Waller of Fires of Portugal.
The fund raising event was a great success and those attending enjoyed cakes and savouries produced by Judi Kenna. RC Silves president, Alan Winn, was particularly pleased to welcome UK television and theatre actor Chris Ellison (known to many expatriates as DI Burns from The Bill) and his wife Anita, who are currently enjoying a holiday in the Algarve.
Whilst sipping bucks fizz, coffee and tea, those attending were also able to swap books and enjoy making new friendships.
This is the first of a series of coffee mornings being organised by RC Silves; it is planned that they will be held at various venues across the Algarve.
The next coffee morning will be held at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Armação de Pêra on Friday, September 27, between 10am and 12pm, and is in aid of the building fund of the Associação Oncológica do Algarve. See next week’s Algarve Resident for further details.
