Fun in the sun safer this year

As part of the regional health authority’s (ARSA) Summer Plan, medical posts have been set up on beaches throughout the Algarve for the duration of the summer. Open from 10am until 8pm, the posts will offer bathers and sun worshippers first aid for injuries such as sunstroke, dizziness, insect bites and stings.

As well as treating minor injuries on site, the posts will also transport the more serious cases to the nearest medical centre or hospital. The incentive is a collaborative effort between the ARSA and the Portuguese Red Cross to guarantee the best care for beachgoers.

These posts were set up not only to treat patients quickly, but because “many cases can be resolved on site so people can avoid going to hospital and crowding Accident and Emergency”, a spokesperson from ARSA said.
