On Sunday, August 20, the Portugal Resident attended and supported a local charity evening and auction with live music provided by The Guinness Brothers, in aid of the Goldra Dog Sanctuary.
Held in the beautiful setting of the Courtyard Restaurant at the Eleven Boutique House & Garden in Boliqueime, the event was well attended by ticket-only guests, all with one aim in mind – to raise money for the dogs rescued and homed permanently at the Goldra Dog Sanctuary in Goldra, Loulé, run by Jan Henderson and her team of volunteers.
Preceding the event, there was an online auction – with lots including a painting by Jessica Dunn, who also attended the event, work from other local artists and generous donations from businesses in the Algarve and abroad – which finished at 8pm with a combined ticket and auction total of €4,864 raised for Goldra.
Apart from the great music, there were light bites, canapés, beer, and wine provided by Judie McKean and her partner chef Vere Ellis who run the Courtyard Restaurant plus help from their family and friends to complete what was a very successful and fun evening.
Jan commented: “Even though I have been involved in events like this for many years, it never ceases to amaze me at the amount of support shown for Goldra. I would like to thank all those who attended and those who bid on the online auction, and especial thanks to Judie and Vere for providing all the food and drink and everyone else who helped on the night.”
Future events on the Goldra Sanctuary calendar include a lunch at the Barbacoa Restaurant in Almancil on Saturday, September 16 (to reserve, email [email protected]) and a charity golf day on November 2 at Ombria Golf Club. For more information, email [email protected]
