Fun event looking for walkers and runners

A LOCAL, Portuguese registered charity that supports children in need in the Algarve, the Associação de Solidariedade com as Crianças Carenciadas do Algarve (ACCA), is inviting walkers and runners to take part in its Fourth Annual Fun Event, on October 30, in Quinta do Lago.

Last year, more than 100 people took part and raised over 3,000 euros, but ACCA needs more people this year as the target is to improve on that figure, which raised enough money to buy an electric wheelchair for student João Miguel of Quarteira. ACCA also needs volunteers to help steward the fun event, so the whole family can be involved.

Everyone taking part should meet at the Ria Formosa bridge car park at 9.30am, ready for the 10am start, and spectators are very welcome to cheer on participants The walk is five kilometres or run 10 kilometres – and it’s just for fun! Teams of people, especially in fancy dress, are welcome and this could be a great way of advertising your business.

Adults pay 10 euros and children five euros to participate. All money goes to help children in need. Entry forms are available from Barringtons in Vale do Lobo (289 351 940) or by calling Wanda on 919 617 995 or Susanne on 919 383 591.

ACCA runs many events throughout the year and you can keep in touch by receiving its regular newsletter – just call Phil on 916 227 190 to be put on the list.
