Fun and Games Day 2006

AN EVENT that has now become a fixture on the Lisbon calendar, the British Community Council (BCC) Fun and Games Day will this year take place at St. Julian’s School in Carcavelos, on Saturday, June 24.

The sporting events will comprise of 20 teams, all participating in seven different disciplines and will begin slightly earlier than usual, at 11am, in order to bring the presentations to a close before the World Cup quarter-final kick-off at 5.30pm. A wide-screen TV will be available at the Casuals so that there will be no need to rush home to see the match.

On the sporting side, teams will compete in such diverse activities as:

• Touch rugby

• Scottish dancing

• Basketball

• Volleyball

• Lacrosse

• Field hockey

• Football

This year’s charities to benefit from the event are the Salvation Army’s Children’s Home at Sintra and the Carcavelos Bombeiros. Funds donated to the Bombeiros will be used to help equip a new rescue vehicle that will be present for inspection, along with some vintage firefighting equipment and demonstrations by the firefighters. For car enthusiasts, there will also be some beautiful vintage and veteran cars on display.

The Salvation Army will be organising games for the younger participants, as well as bouncy castles and human table-football.

As always, ample food and drinks will be available throughout the day as well as chances to win some great prizes, while supporting two very worthwhile causes.

With entry at only one euro, there is no excuse not to go along and enjoy a great day out!
