Despite the fact that fuel prices dropped in 2013 in relation to 2012, sales at the pumps plummeted leaving the government at least €40 million out-of-pocket. The news comes in a report by the DGEG (Direção Geral de Energia e Geologia) which confirms that petrol consumption in 2013 was down by around 2.7% on 2012, while diesel sales had also dropped by at least 1.6%.
