Members and guests of the Algarve History Association will be able to enjoy talks on two very different subjects this month.
Birds of the Algarve will be the first subject under discussion with Clive Viney, author of Algarve Wildlife – the natural year, discussing the subject.
Clive Viney is best known for his book The Birds of Hong Kong and South China, which is considered to be the standard regional guide.
Closely associated with the Algarve since 1988 and a member of the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds, Clive has been involved in major bird studying projects in the region and will be bringing his knowledge to the talk being held at the municipal library in Tavira on Monday, September 26 from 6pm.
David Johnson will be examining the end of the Empire in Spain and Portugal. |
Meanwhile, the barbarian conquest of Roman Spain and Portugal will be the topic being discussed by David Johnson during the history talks.
The first talk will be taking place on Tuesday, September 27 at the municipal library in Lagoa from 6.30pm and will then be repeated on September 30 at 11am in the municipal library in Tavira.
Former secondary school head teacher David Johnson will be using accounts of contemporary eyewitnesses to explain the world changing events that saw the Empire fall leading to the rule of the Visigoths across Iberia.
To illustrate the lecture photographs of buildings and artefacts surviving from the era will be used.
