Members of the Lodge of Discoveries, a Masonic Lodge based in the Algarve, have taken a new approach to charity donations – they decided to support a medical nurse during her training.
Roxane Marie Isabelle Patricia van Hauwaert, aged 19, studies at the Algarve University – Nursing Faculty in Faro and started her course in September 2011. She has dual nationality, her mother being Portuguese and her father Belgian, and they reside in Albufeira.
The Lodge of Discoveries’ sponsorship amounts to €1,000 per annum to assist Roxane in the purchase of her medical books and any other equipment she may need. This is a four year commitment by the Lodge.
The Lodge receives regular updates on Roxane’s progress.
John Bergstrom-Potter from the Lodge said: “The three Lodges recognised by The United Grand Lodge of England in Portugal support many registered charities here in Portugal as well as deserving charities abroad.”
