Free transport service for summer clubbers

A COMPLEMENTARY transport service entitled “Buzy – You Enjoy We Drive” is being run for the third consecutive summer in the Algarve, to try to prevent young people from having road accidents, after summer evenings spent at the region’s bars and nightclubs. This year, the service will also be extended to the Minho region in the north of Portugal.

The idea was developed by three university students as a way to combat the worrying level of road accidents that occur in the peak season months of July and August – accidents in which several of their friends had already lost their lives.

Where, how and when does the service operate?

The service in the Algarve has just begun this year and will continue until August 15. It is concentrated within the areas of Albufeira and Loulé (Albufeira, Oura/Montechoro, Balaia, Vilamoura, Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago), and the areas with fashionable nightclubs.

Tens of thousands of young people were transported in the previous two years and, once again this year, there are four, bright pink, 80 seater coaches. The service will run from midnight through to 9.15am, leaving every 45 minutes from Albufeira (Praça de Touros) and from Quinta do Lago (Trigonometria), making stops at various other locations marked with signs bearing the slogan “Buzy – You Enjoy We Drive”.

Access to the coaches will be given to those carrying a special card, which can be obtained free from nightclubs including Klube, Trigonometria, Kadoc, Pier One, China and Bar 7. There will also be promotional activity on the Algarve’s beaches.

Good support for the initiative

The service is being sponsored by mobile phone company, Uzo, and is supported by the Câmaras of Loulé and Albufeira, and those in the Minho where the service will operate for the first time this year.
