Free transport for Lisbon’s young and old

Trailblazing Lisbon mayor Carlos Moedas has said he will be pushing for public transports to be free for all young people up to the age of 23, and all elderly over the age of 65, from next month. The policy, if given approval, will cost the city council roughly €12 million. Says Mr Moedas, who is running the council without a working majority, the policy is “fundamental” for the ‘decarbonisation’ of the capital.
