Free skin cancer screenings will be available in Castro Marim from Wednesday, October 12 to Friday, October 14.
The idea is to offer early diagnosis of “cancerous or precancerous” issues so that they can be promptly dealt with.
The first screening will take place at Odeleite’s parish council on October 12 between 9.30am and 12.30pm, followed by a second screening the same day at Azinhal’s continuing care facility between 2pm and 5pm.
Dr Manuela Aguiar and nurse Cristina Macedo will be in Castro Marim the following day for two screenings at the municipal library from 9.30am to 12.30pm and from 2pm to 5pm.
Altura’s parish council will host the Friday screenings with the same timetables.
“An early diagnosis of any kind of cancer greatly increases the probability of a cure, which is why these screenings are important,” said mayor and also local doctor Francisco Amaral.
Earlier this year, Portugal’s skin cancer association (APCC) warned that it expected “more than 12,000 new cases of skin cancer” to be diagnosed this year. (click here).
