Free skin cancer screenings at Forum Algarve this weekend

Free skin cancer screenings will be held at Forum Algarve this weekend (August 20 to 22), in a partnership between the shopping centre and the Portuguese League Against Cancer (Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro).

A dermatologist will be checking the skin for moles and unusual marks that may be signs of skin cancer.

Each year in Portugal, around 12,000 new cases of skin cancer are detected, 1,200 of which are melanomas. Thus, it is vitally important to take a preventive approach by having your skin checked by a health professional. When found at an early stage, skin cancer may be easier to treat.

The screenings will be held at Forum Algarve’s Praça Central from 11am to 2pm and 3pm to 8pm each day. You should be aged 50+, or under 50 if there are risk factors associated with skin cancer, such as a family history of the disease, a large number of moles, a lighter natural skin colour, blue or green eyes, or are an outdoor worker exposed to the sun for long periods.

To register for a free skin cancer screening, either go to and fill-in a form online, or go directly in person on the day of your visit.
