Free dirt carpark is “sweetener” for visitors, as paid-parking to be introduced in Praia da Rocha

A free dirt car park has opened in Praia da Rocha, near the roundabout to Portimão Marina, increasing the holiday resort’s parking capacity by 1,000.
Portimão town hall said the car park facility was only possible thanks to an agreement with Grupo Espírito Santo, which owns the land located 500 metres from the beach.
But, in reality, this is likely to be a “sweetener” for visitors to the popular resort, as the local council plans to implement paid parking in six central areas of Praia da Rocha. The reason? To allow for more spaces to become available in these busy areas, says the town hall.
Residents will, however, be provided a special card allowing them to park in these spaces for unlimited time. The move is yet to be discussed at the next municipal assembly meeting and is expected to generate some negative reactions.
Another parking facility soon to open in Praia da Rocha is a paid underground car park with a capacity for 280 cars. It is located by the Tarik building, near the flyover, and is “practically concluded”, a council spokesman told the Resident. “There are just some bureaucratic issues that need to be dealt with.”
Phone parking in Faro
Paying for parking in Faro can now be done via cell phone. Using the EOS Parking system developed by Masky Services, drivers can pay their car parking fees through their smartphone, iPhone or webmobiles.
To use the system, you need only to log onto EOS Parking, download the free App and provide your credit card details.
Thus Faro has become the sixth town to offer this service in Portugal, along with Portimão, Lagos, Amadora, Vila Real and Vila Nova de Gaia.
