An Algarve couple organised a Memorial Golf Day in tribute to Fred Hurley, a well-known and popular character in the region who died in a car accident in July 2010.
Prompted by their last conversation with Fred about golf, Pat and Les Sandford decided a fitting tribute would be a golf day at his beloved Alamos course at Morgado.
On December 6, 34 golfers took to the course and were later joined by Fred’s widow, Val, and 30 family and friends for lunch, during which there was a charity auction and a raffle.
Proceeds of the day, some €1,671, will be presented to Riding for the Disabled, a charity loved and supported by Fred and Val.
The prizes were specially commissioned and donated by Paul Tremlett and were presented to Rod Hawke and Tommy Jensen (winners), Heather Lloyd and Alun Roberts (runners-up), Margaret Walling (nearest the pin), Robert Wood (longest drive men’s) and Heather Lloyd (longest drive ladies).
