Four up!

Portimonense returned to form last Sunday afternoon as a defensively weak Atlético team from Lisbon were put to the sword in the municipal stadium.

A number of spectators were still making their way to their seats as Zambujo latched onto a Semedo pass to open the scoring with a powerful drive two minutes into the game. The home side were two up following a bullet header from new fan favourite Dyego Sousa, and Quinaz made it three without reply shortly before the interval.

With the match as good as decided, manager Lázaro Oliveira’s men were content to merely control the second period of play, a tactic which did not however prevent Sousa from grabbing his second and the club’s fourth goal 20 minutes from the end.

Portimonense, handily poised four points behind second-placed Penafiel (leaders Porto B cannot be promoted), will travel to Beira-Mar next weekend before welcoming Sporting B to the Algarve on September 22.

Meanwhile, fellow second division side Farense were beaten 2-0 by Santa Clara in the Azores and will have to improve against AC Viseu in a fortnight’s time if they are to get off the foot of the league table.
