Police authorities in Lisbon got more than they bargained for when they intercepted a couple consuming drugs inside a vehicle – upon further inspection of the car, a four-metre-long python was found in the boot, but luckily for the police officers inside a plastic box.
During the operation, the man, 39, was also found to be carrying an illegal weapon. According to a post published on the Facebook page of the Lisbon PSP Metropolitan Command, the man was arrested during a drug surveillance operation in the area of Lumiar, Lisbon and is due to appear before a criminal court.
The man was also notified for possessing an exotic animal without documentation to prove its ownership.
Lisbon Zoo has now been entrusted with the care of the 70kg python, but the man will be ordered to pay for any expenses the establishment incurs with the animal.
