Four injured in explosion near Aqualand waterpark in Quarteira

Four people were injured – two of them seriously – in an explosion at a house in Quarteira near the Aqualand waterpark in the early hours of Wednesday morning (December 22).

National media reports the explosion is believed to have been caused by a gas leak.

The explosion destroyed parts of the house and also caused damage to two surrounding houses and several nearby vehicles.

According to SIC Notícias, seven people were inside the house at the time of the explosion.

A 61-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man are said to have sustained serious injuries, while a 15-year-old girl is reported to have suffered light injuries.
A 48-year-old firefighter also sustained injuries.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
