Four eco-friendly Algarve hotels receive Green Keys

Four Algarve hotels – Conrad Algarve (Quinta do Lago), Hilton Vilamoura (Vilamoura), Vila Galé Albacora (Tavira) and Pine Cliffs (Albufeira) – have been awarded ‘Green Key’ eco-labels for their environmentally-friendly policies.
Sixty-four other Portuguese hotels and establishments received Green Keys during a ceremony in the Eça de Queiroz foundation in Baião last Friday (May 27).
Algarve tourism boss Desidério Silva talked of his pride after the ceremony, affirming that the region was establishing itself as a “nature tourism destination”.
“This is why it is fundamental that public and private entities promote sustainable behaviours that protect our natural resources, one of the region’s most important assets,” he said.
The Green Key award is described as a “leading standard of excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry”.
“This prestigious eco-label represents a commitment by businesses that their tourism establishments adhere to the strict criteria as stipulated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE),” the Green Key website explains.
