Four days of New Year’s fun planned in Quarteira

New Year events galore in Quarteira

Quarteira is promising to be one of the main destinations for New Year’s revellers in the Algarve, with a four-day programme featuring concerts, a fireworks show and a race.

The 11th São Silvestre Race will mark the beginning of the festivities on December 28. The event, which will start at 8.30pm, has become a popular event, attracting nearly a thousand athletes of all ages year after year.

The remaining New Year’s celebrations will take place at Passeio das Dunas, which will host concerts every night from December 29 to 31.

Australian-born singer/songwriter Marc Noah will be the first to take the stage on December 29 at 9.30pm, followed an hour later by RFM Time Machine (Revenge of the 90s), which will bring the “greatest hits of the 1990s” to Quarteira.

Classic rock lovers will be in for a treat on December 30, when a Dire Straits tribute band will take the stage at 10pm, followed by DJ Kalama, one of the leading names in Portuguese electronic music.

The last night of the year will see DJ Luís Luz opening at 9.30pm for one of the biggest names in Portuguese pop music to Quarteira: the trio known as D.A.M.A. The Lisbon-based band will take the stage at 10.30pm and will perform until midnight, when a fireworks display is expected to lighten up the town’s seafront. The party will continue into the early hours of the morning with a performance by Quem é o Bob?, the tribute band that pays homage to reggae legend Bob Marley.

All events of the New Year’s programme are free and organised by the Loulé Municipal Council with the support of the Quarteira Parish Council.
