Four arrested over UK murder of Portuguese man

Three men and a woman have been arrested over the brutal murder of a Portuguese man in Crawley, West Sussex, over the weekend.
The men, aged 33, 48 and 23, and the woman, 22, were all arrested by the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, after the Portuguese man was found badly beaten and unconscious in an alleyway near a football pitch in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The area – very close to Gatwick airport – is one with a high number of resident Portuguese, but it is not known at this stage whether this man, aged 45, was one of them.
Appealing for information from the public after the initial arrests, Detective Chief Inspector Jason Taylor said on Sunday: “We believe the man was assaulted sometime between 10.30pm yesterday and 3.25am today, but sadly he died this afternoon.”
According to the Crawley News, the alleyway where the man was found is close to where a group of homeless people have been known to camp in woodland – “although police have given no indication at present as to whether the victim or suspects were linked to the camp”.
