Four Algarve boroughs among Portugal’s Top 30 “to live, visit and work”

Faro (9th), Portimão (18th), Albufeira (23rd) and Loulé (26th) are among Portugal’s top-30 boroughs, according to city branding company Bloom Consulting.

The annual ranking features all the nation’s boroughs – from best to worst – taking into account their performance in the categories of business, tourism and quality of life.

Unsurprisingly, the national ranking is led by Portugal’s capital Lisbon, followed by Porto, Cascais, Braga and Coimbra. Faro is the only Algarve municipality in the national top-10, placed ahead of Funchal but behind Vila Nova de Gaia, Sintra and Aveiro.

Taking only the Algarve into account, Faro took the top spot being considered the best municipality for business and quality of life. Portimão, which placed second, was singled out as the best borough for tourism.

Albufeira was considered the third top borough in the Algarve when taking the three factors into account, followed by Tavira, Lagos, Olhão, Silves, Vila Real de Santo António and Aljezur.

Placing outside of the regional top-10 were Lagoa, Vila do Bispo, Castro Marim, Monchique, São Brás de Alportel and finally Alcoutim.
