Forum Algarve goes “pet friendly”

Faro’s Forum Algarve is to become “the first shopping centre in Portugal and possibly the whole of Europe” to boast a “totally pet-friendly area”.

“There will no longer be any reasons not to bring your best (four-legged) friend along with you whenever you go shopping,” Forum Algarve manager Sérgio Santos told Barlavento newspaper.

Located in an outdoor section of the mall, the pet-friendly area will be open to dogs of any breed or size and is described as an “innovative space destined for leisure”.

The idea was discussed with a number of authorities as well as animal associations which “understand better than anyone what animals and their owners need”.

It is due to open between Thursday, July 20 and Monday, July 24.

According to Santos, several outdoor sections of Forum Algarve as well as many stores already welcome pets.

Also scheduled to open soon at the mall is a new playground for children aged five to 12.

The mall’s food court is also due to undergo a makeover and expansion to make it more comfortable and welcoming.
