Fort classified

The Forte de São Roque (better known as the fort of Meia Praia) in Lagos has at last received classification as a monument of public interest. The ancient structure that dates back to the 1600s, and commanded a strategic position over the Bay of Lagos, has been languishing ‘unprotected’ and a victim to graffiti for many years. The push for classification came from local interests who claim it represents huge value to the collective memory, as well as being of aesthetic and architectural interest.
