Two former politicians suspected of large-scale corruption and murder respectively have been back in the news this week. The first – former minister of the economy Manuel Pinho – because judges have decided to restore his pension of just over €2,000 a month. Mr Pinho remains under house arrest on various charges relating to the EDP investigation. The second – former PSD politician and condemned fraudster Duarte Lima – because one of the main witnesses against him in the upcoming murder trial that has taken over a decade to reach trial stage has died. Olímpia Feiteira died aged 80 following a long illness. She was one of the witnesses for the prosecution of Duarte Lima, who is now out of jail having served his sentence for fraud; due back in court next month charged with the murder of Ms Feiteira’s late father’s former mistress.
