Former Catholic Church leader dies at 78

The former Cardinal of Lisbon José Policarpo died yesterday (March 12) aged 78.
National media reports that the retired Catholic Church leader experienced chest pain early in the morning and was admitted to hospital in Lisbon for heart surgery. He died later of an aortic aneurysm.
Policarpo had been elected Cardinal of Lisbon by Pope John Paul II in 2001, and since then participated in the Conclaves in which Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis were named leaders of the Catholic Church.
His funeral will take place tomorrow (March 14) at Lisbon Cathedral at 4pm.
