Former businessman penniless by choice

A businessman has given up his career in order to live without money for a year.

After becoming disillusioned with consumerism, Mark Boyle gave up his job, possessions and money to live life as a pauper in a rusty old caravan and has said it is the best decision he has ever made.

He survives by growing vegetables on his one-acre of land and forages for nuts and mushrooms while picking up waste food from supermarkets and restaurants.

For toothpaste, he uses cuttlefish bone he finds on the beach mixed with fennel seed and for toilet roll he uses old ripped up newspapers.

His lifestyle choice has had repercussions after splitting up with his girlfriend six months ago. She was supportive initially but didn’t want to have the same lifestyle.
