Forestry fines

In a bid to cut down on forest fires, the Government is planning fines for property owners who fail to keep their neck of the woods in shape. Talking to Antena 1 radio station, agriculture minister Assunção Cristas said owners who do not clear their land will be subjected to on-the-spot fines from the GNR, very much along the lines of traffic fines. The paperwork is being formulated, and should be ‘ready to go’ before next summer, reports Expresso.
