Foreigners given Portuguese residencies for investigation increase “eight times in five years”

The number of foreigners taking up residencies in Portugal for “activity of investigation” or for being “highly qualified” has increased eight times between 2011-2016, reveals a study by the Observatory of Migrations. This new profile of immigrants has also changed with regard to investment. Says the study in 2011 no residencies at all were awarded to people keen to invest, while over 4,300 were awarded in 2016.
