A 24-year-old woman from New Zealand is in hospital in Lisbon after she was found lying injured on the floor near the garage of an apartment block in Lagos on May 16.
According to Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, a passerby found the woman lying on the floor at around 7am and called for help. The woman was taken to Portimão’s Barlavento hospital, where she was found to have facial fractures and internal bleeding.
A spokesman from the hospital told the Algarve Resident: “The patient arrived at around 9am and was examined by a doctor. The possibility of rape was excluded but there were signs of aggression.”
The spokesman added that the woman was taken by air to São José hospital in Lisbon where she had facial surgery.
The PSP police, who registered the case, have now passed it onto the Polícia Judiciária for further investigation.
