In Turkey, Brazilian Márcio Nobre scored the only goal in Fenerbahce’s home win over Galatasaray to give his club the title, the 16th in their history. The two had previously contested the Cup Final, which Galatasaray took by a convincing 5-1 margin.
Another Brazilian, Rivaldo, was on target for Olympiakos who won their 33rd Greek Championship, edging out Panathinaikos by one point. AEK Athens finished third in the league table.
The Bulgarian Cup went to Levski, who beat fierce city rivals CSKA Sofia 2-1 to claim the trophy for the 25th time. Meanwhile, in Germany, first and second in the Championship, Bayern Munich and Schalke 04, met in the German Cup Final in Berlin. Bayern achieved the double beating their opponents 2-1 with goals from Makaay and Salihamidzic.
In Scotland, Celtic beat Dundee 1-0 to take the Cup.
