Foreign entrant dies in Triathlon

Despite its success, this year’s Praia da Luz triathlon was struck by tragedy.

One of the entrants, a 57-year-old foreign woman, died after becoming unwell during the swim.

According to the INEM emergency service, the woman went into cardiorespiratory arrest when their team was called at 10.20am. “The woman was still alive when she was taken to Portimão Hospital but died later that day,” confirmed the source.

Organisers have refused to give further information – in “respect” of the privacy of family and friends – but it is understood that the woman suffered from health problems.
