Portuguese exports of footwear and leather goods increased 22.2% to a new historical maximum of €2.347 billion in 2022 compared to 2021, but the sector faces 2023 “with caution” due to the economic slowdown. In a statement released today, the Portuguese Association of Footwear, Components, Leather Goods and its Imports (APICCAPS) said that all segments of the industry registered “significant increases” last year in year-on-year terms. In total, Portugal exported 76 million pairs of shoes in 2022, worth €2.009 billion, surpassing for the first time, the barrier of €2 billion. Compared to the previous year, there is an increase of 10.5% in quantity and 20.2% in value, and compared to 2019, exports grew more than 13.8%.
