The APG/GNR/Faro all stars football match took place at the Municipal Stadium on July 28 in Almancil, aimed at raising money for three officers and two children in need. The Alan Shearer Amigos team won the match 2 goals to 0, the goals being scored late in the second half.
At the end of the match a total of €4,300 had already been raised, but it is understood that more has been pledged.
The Rotary Clubs of Almancil (AIRC) and Silves assisted the APG/GNR in their efforts raising a substantial amount through programme advertising sales and donations for tickets. William Offen, Regional Manager for Blacktower Financial Management (and also a member of AIRC) sponsored the trophies. William told the Algarve Resident: “This was a wonderful initiative by the APG/GNR and Blacktower was delighted to be able to play a part in this local event”.
Alan Shearer was joined by Jimmy Bullard, former Newcastle player, Lee Bowyer, ex-Fulham and Ipswich Town, Pedro Cary, a famous Portuguese player, Fabio Paim, Greek National player, Antonio Veloso, ex Benfica and several other well known local players, all of whom willingly gave their time – and their legs!
