A football match to assist GNR officers who are facing severe financial difficulties due to serious health problems is taking place on July 28 at 6.30pm at the Municipal Stadium in Almancil.
This initiative is non-profit making and has the sole purpose of helping two female GNR soldiers who are suffering from cancer, two children of GNR officers with cerebral palsy and a young GNR officer who became a paraplegic after an accident.
The APG GNR Futsal Faro football team has taken the initiative to hold the football match by combining sport and community spirit. The team has invited former England football star Alan Shearer to bring together former colleagues to support this cause. Some well known international football stars are expected to participate.
The APG GNR Faro team was recently first runners-up in the National Polícia Judiciária Football Championships, where they were narrowly beaten by PSP de Vila Nova de Gaia. It should therefore be a high quality match. Regular players include Captain Adriano, Commander GNR Loulé, and Frederico (Freddie) Sousa Fragoso of GNR Loulé.
Almancil International Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Silves said they are delighted to be assisting in the organisation of the charity football match involving the GNR vs ‘Alan Shearer OBE and friends’.
Sheena Rawcliffe, outgoing President of RC Silves, told the Algarve Resident that it was great to be involved in an initiative by the GNR and its federation the APG.
This will be a great opportunity for all nationalities to come together and show solidarity. Tickets are not required for this event, but everyone attending is invited to give generously either before the event to the specially set up bank account – NIB 001800033438322402045 – or when you arrive at the event.
