Football legend Paulo Futre woos Spanish tourists to Carvoeiro

Retired Portuguese football star Paulo Futre is on holiday in Carvoeiro (Lagoa) and has been using his Facebook page to woo Spanish tourists to Portugal and the Algarve.

“Spanish friends, if you are thinking about coming to my country, you know you are always welcome,” the 55-year-old former player wrote as he posted a photo on Saturday at Carvoeiro’s Villa Medici restaurant.

A few days later, the former Atlético Madrid star posted a video describing Carvoeiro as “unique” while enjoying the town’s musical entertainment, which is provided on a moving bus (click here), from his hotel room balcony at Carvoeiro Plaza.

Paulo Futre was one of the most successful Portuguese footballers of his generation, having played for Portugal’s Big Three (Benfica, Sporting and Porto) as well as Spanish side Atlético Madrid, where he remains popular to this day.
