Coach José Romao has announced the Portuguese squad for the Athens tournament, which will attempt to go one better than the full international team at Euro 2004. The list of 18 players includes four of Scolari’s heroes: Tiago, Christiano Ronaldo, Moreira and Postiga. Also named are three over age players [remainder all U23], Stuttgart’s Fernando Meira, Fulham’s Boa Morte and Boavista’s Frechaut. Former Newcastle player Hugo Vina, now back with Sporting, and new Chelsea acquisition Tiago are also included. The team had its first serious test against Paraguay in the Algarve Stadium on Wednesday and will take on Costa Rica, Morocco and Iraq in the group phase in Greece. The games will be played in Pathas and Heraklion twice on August 12, 15 and 18.
