Football fans speak out against criminalisation of flares

A draft law, approved by the Council of Ministers, criminalising the use of flares in sports stadiums and venues is “repressive” and “disproportionate”, president of the Portuguese Association for the Defence of Football Fans Martha Gens has told Lusa. Ms Gens acknowledged the measure may be a vote catcher, but “the more votes it brings in, the fewer fans it will take to the stadiums”. She added that the five years imprisonment that the new law proposes will place this offence “alongside crimes such as pimping and corruption…”
