Food to bring back memories

LAST YEAR, Sara Vasco and Julie Middleton opened Food Fayre in Messines, a shop selling all those things you used to be able to get in your old home country, but cannot find in your new one.

The shop is jam packed with goodies ranging from Borley’s pies, Easycall phone cards, English greeting cards and double cream, to Kingsmill bread, Dutch cheese and many more. Food Fayre also supplies goose, rolled pork and crackling, New Zealand lamb and gammon joints. And Sara and Julie haven’t forgotten our four-legged friends, as they sell special pet food from Paws4Pets.

For the British tourist and those residents who still haven’t quite mastered the Portuguese language, Food Fayre also sells a medicine shelf with Paracetamol, Lemsip, Gaviscon, Savlon and multi-vitamins. However, it’s their massive range of Easter goodies that has pride of place at the moment: hot cross buns, Easter eggs and even Cadbury’s Cream Eggs!

Food Fayre is open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday (they don’t close for lunch), and 9am to 1pm on Saturday. Pop in and have a tea or coffee while you look around, or use their computer and internet for free. With good parking right outside the shop, there’s no excuse for filling up your car with those home comforts you’ve yearned for for so long.
