Food collection for local charities

The regional food bank, Banco Alimentar Contra a Fome, will be holding a weekend-long food collection campaign between May 30 and 31 in supermarkets across the Algarve.

The Faro-based food bank supports around 3,800 families in the entire region through 74 charitable institutions.

Teresa Cavaleiro, a spokeswoman from the food bank, told the Algarve Resident: “We will be present in every council in the Algarve, in around 90 local shops and supermarkets across the region.”

She added that the items that are most needed by the association are dry foods such as biscuits, rice, pasta, beans and tinned foods.

“We will gladly receive anything people want to donate. We often receive a lot of fresh foods and toiletries, which we give away to charities straight away,” she said.
