Food bank success

More than 100 tonnes of food were collected by the Algarve’s food bank Banco Alimentar Contra a Fome (BACFA) as part of a national food drive initiative on May 30 and 31.

Adriano Pimpão, President of BACFA, said that the campaign’s success was due to the work of around 2,000 volunteers, the help from public and private institutions and the generous donations from citizens.

The food collected from 90 supermarkets across the Algarve will be distributed to around 10,000 people in need in the region through 75 different charities.
