Food bank success

DECEMBER’S NATIONAL food drive, Banco Alimentar Contra a Fome (BACFA), has been deemed a great success thanks to the thousands of volunteers from around the country who helped out.

In the Algarve, the campaign has collected more than 107 tonnes of food items. This is a 36 per cent increase from the campaign in May and, according to Adriano Lopes Gomes Pimpão, President of BACFA, this has been due to great dedication and generosity of the 1,400 volunteers. The food distribution has already commenced and around 7,000 people will be given food packages through 46 institutions, including orphanages and retirement homes.

Throughout the country, tonnes of food products have been distributed to more than 1,400 institutions in Portugal.
