A 400sqm warehouse in Portimão has been loaned to the Algarve Food Bank by the Câmara.
A group of volunteers has been busy preparing the premises to begin storing much-needed food items for underprivileged people in the west of the region.
For years, the only Algarve Food Bank warehouse was located in Faro, but it will now be logistically easier to collect, store and distribute food supplies to meet the needs of poor people in this part of the Algarve.
It is hoped the warehouse, located in the Coca Maravilhas area, will be ready by March at the earliest or, “without fail”, by May, in time for the first major food collection campaign in the region, said an Algarve Food Bank spokesman.
The Algarve Food Bank is currently looking for more volunteers to help with several jobs that still require doing at the Portimão warehouse.
