More than 51 tons of fruits and vegetables were collected by the Algarve Food Bank in 2019 at the Mercado Abastecedor da Região de Faro (MARF), located in Guilhim, Estoi.
The products were donated by companies based at the wholesale market.
The market belongs to the SIMAB Group, which also runs wholesale markets in Braga, Évora and Lisbon where food products are also donated to the Food Bank.
Rui Paulo Figueiredo, CEO of MARF, says that these partnerships are very important to the goal of increasing the amount of food that is delivered to families in need.
He added that “these extremely positive numbers” were only possible due to the donations made by the “operators based at the market”.
MARF was created in 2003 and is home to nearly 177 companies in the agriculture, transportation, logistics and services sectors.
