A NATIONAL campaign to collect donations of food at various supermarkets across Portugal last weekend resulted in 1,905 tonnes of produce being given by members of the public.
This year there was a 19 per cent increase, which will now be distributed to families across Portugal.
The food bank initiative is the largest volunteer programme in Portugal and involved more than 20,000 people over the weekend.
