FNAC OPENED a brand new megastore at Guia’s Algarve Shopping on June 23, in an investment worth 3.2 million euros.
The new store, which is creating a total of 90 new jobs, will occupy an area of 1,500sqm and is situated on the first floor, close to the cinema. The store stocks around 150,000 different products including DVDs, CDs, books, IT, photographic and telecommunications equipment, among others.
New cultural venue
As well as offering its customers a broad range of products, the store also seeks to become a reference on the Algarve cultural scene. The shop has its own cultural space, Forum Fnac, which will host live music performances, book launches, debates, film screenings, children’s entertainment, and more. There is also a gallery for photographic exhibitions, with five different shows planned annually.
Concerts
To mark the opening of the new store, two concerts took place yesterday (June 23), given by Portuguese band, The Gift, and Fado singer Carla Pires. On Saturday, June 25, jazz lovers will be happy to hear that there is a performance by Algarvean jazz musician, Hugo Alves, who will play with three members of the Lagos Jazz Orchestra.
Many more musical styles are also included in the programme, and events planned in June and July include concerts from Lullabye, Maze, UHF and Room 74, among others. Music fans will also be treated to three complimentary open-air concerts due to take place on Wednesday, June 29, which will take place in the area outside the Fnac store – the artists for these are yet to be announced, but they are expected to be top Portuguese acts.
Expansion plans
Fnac, which already enjoys a strong presence in the Lisbon and Porto areas, is owned by French group, Pinault-Printemps-Redoute (PPR), which is now seeking to expand to other regions of the country.
The new outlet at Algarve Shopping is the eighth store for the brand in Portugal, which also has nine Fnac Service shops that offer a film development service, memory card processing and internet access.
