Flowers in fashion

The countryside is an inspiration for artists at this time of year.

Expressing its visual splendour with a rare technique, the celebrated paintings of Shyama Ruffell have been featured in many British galleries and at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Currently being exhibited at Galeria Corte-Real in Paderne they are described as “a cocktail of William Morris and Henri Rousseau with a splash of Klimt and a squeeze of Jungle Book!”

One time lecturer at the London College of Fashion, Shyama’s fascination with textile prints and surface patterns is reflected in a unique style when portraying open fields and hedgerows.

Signposted from Paderne, Boliqueime and Ferreiras, the gallery is open Thursday to Sunday from 11am until 5pm.
