THE HALLELUJAH Procession, part of the Festival of the Flower Torches, one of Portugal’s oldest and most popular religious celebrations, took place in São Brás de Alportel on Easter Sunday.
Three tons of flowers were used to create a carpet of flowers measuring 1km in length. In addition, streets, balconies and windows were covered and adorned with flowers to pay homage to Christ’s ressurection.
More than 6,000 people descended on the town for the religious festival, which began with a Eucharist at the Igreja Matriz. The church also served as the set off point for the Hallelujah Procession.
