Floral formats at rural gallery

Fascinated by flowering plants, Sean Curley has captured their beauty in some of the world’s most unusual and remote places.

Painting the exotic foliage of southwest Anatolia and species found in the Filao forests of Mauritius, his ability to replicate nature, light and atmosphere is remarkable.

Spending time in Portugal, commissioned by Galeria Côrte-Real in Paderne, he has recreated scenes of fields and gardens massed with glorious flowers.

Artists such as Claude Monet and Georgia O’Keefe were similarly obsessed with the perfection of nature, producing images that are now iconic. Sean Curley shares with them the skill to set down on canvas the wonders of the natural world.

Coming from roots in rural Ireland, he now lives on England’s south coast where his paintings have graced many prestigious Fine Art galleries.

This is the first occasion they have been seen in Portugal displayed alongside the work of more than 30 international artists and artisans.

Galeria Côrte-Real contains ever changing exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, ceramics, textiles and a variety of modern and traditionally designed items for the home.

Open Thursdays to Sundays from 11am to 5pm, the gallery is signposted from Boliqueime, Ferreiras and Paderne.
