Football fans in Albufeira were treated to a special match marking the inauguration of the city stadium’s new floodlights last week. Benfica’s B team took on Albufeira’s Imortal in a match that ended in a 1-0 victory for the Lisbon team. Albufeira Mayor, Desidério Silva, the Secretary of State for Sport, Hermínio Loureiro, and the Civil Governor of Faro, Luís Felipe Vieira, President of Benfica FC, João Gomes, President of the Algarve Football Association and Fernando Barata, President of Imortal FC, were among the famous attendees at the event. Hermínio Loureiro paid tribute to the works. “I am very pleased to be present in this concelho to unveil the modernisation of the stadium’s infrastructure. It’s good to know that we now have the equipment to permit sport to be played after dark.”
