Flood warnings issued for Portugal “north of the Tejo”

Civil protection authority ANPC has issued a series of flood alerts and warnings for Portugal taking in the whole country, but particularly relevant for areas “north of the Tejo” river.

“Historically vulnerable” sites are said to be particularly at risk, including areas near the Minho, Lima, Cávado, Ave, Vouga, Douro and Mondego rivers.

Landslides, too, are said to be possible.

The alerts have followed weather forecasts for the next few days which predict “heavy rain and rough seas” throughout national territory, with strong winds in some areas.

ANPC is advising people not to make unnecessary journeys, to take extra care at the wheel, keep drains free from blockages and secure all loose structures.
